For My Precious Baby Boy

I was not able to tell my story without mentioning my beloved Stanley. He was my Italian Greyhound that was with me for 14 years and was the most amazing dog! He was just three years old when I became ill. Literally for years, he laid right by me, never leaving my side. He knew when I was having a bad day with pain and depression. It was as if he could read my mind. He made sure I got out of bed each morning when there were times I felt there was no reason to get out of bed. You might wonder how a dog could get someone out of bed. Well, you didn't know my Stanley as he could be very persistant.

I lost my Stanley January 16, 2011. He was born with a genetic heart defect. That huge heart couldn't handle the strain on it any longer. I just hope I showed him the same compassion he showed me for so many years. I feel so blessed to have had him in my life for 14 years. I'd do anything to have another 14 years with him. After he passed, I wondered if I would be able to handle this illness without him. It has been so difficult not having him by my side.

He was able to make me laugh when I thought I'd never laugh again. He was so in tune with my thoughts. Almost as if he could read my mind. I don't doubt for a minute that he couldn't.

Stanley, you will forever be in my heart and I look forward to the day that we will be reunited, never to be parted again. I miss you my baby boy and the way you could make me laugh. You were the love of my life and gave me a reason to keep fighting.

I must thank The Rainbow Bridge in helping me during my time of deep sorrow.

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. ~Gilda Radner
